The Austin Powers films are color as parody. The garish oranges and browns of 1960s swinger culture pushed into maximum saturation and maximum comedy. Every frame looks like a mod poster printed too bright. The villain lairs are straight out of a Technicolor Bond film. Jay Roach and his collaborators understood that the humor lives in the commitment to the aesthetic, so they committed completely.
