The John Wick series built an action cinema aesthetic that has been widely imitated. Deep shadows punctuated by saturated neon, all the action staged against the blues and reds of urban nightlife. Chad Stahelski's background as a stunt coordinator gave the color a functional quality: you can always see exactly what is happening, but the palette makes the choreography look like art. Each sequel pushed the visual language further into abstraction.
