The Species films use color to navigate between the familiar and the alien. The creature's human form exists in the warm tones of human spaces. Her true nature surfaces in bioluminescent greens and the cold metallics of science fiction design. The creature effects, designed in part by H.R. Giger, bring the organic-mechanical aesthetic that has defined a certain strain of science fiction horror since Alien.
